The Engagement

About the show: Award winning performer Kimmy Gatewood's show about being jilted at her rehearsal dinner and berated with advice by her loved ones.

Written & Performed by Kimmy Gatewood and directed by Drama Desk Nominee, Tom Ridgely. Prior solo shows include Time Out Critics Pick, “Sugar Coated,” “You’re a Bear and “Look on the Bright Side” (Best of Time Out, Andy Kaufman semi-finalist, ECNY Best Musical Act Nominee).

Follow KIMMY GATEWOOD through her semi-autobiographical story, THE ENGAGEMENT, into the shadows of a coat closet. Having just been dumped by her groom to be, we find main character Kim, hiding from a multitude of guests (played by Gatewood) while they each try to console her in awkward, hilarious, and poignant ways. Gatewood plays everyone from her bitchy best friend who offers loads of back-handed compliments; her sister, Val, who is the polar opposite in everyway, from the corn-rows she wears to the puffy jackets; her ambiguous singing Aunt Fab; her revolutionary step mother; the ghost of her great-great-grandfather; her fantasy man; her youtubin’ younger cousin; the family dog; her own jilted mom, who tells her how love really works; and of course, Judy Garland…who’s afraid of bears. Watch as the world goes from black and white to color as Gatewood nimbly transforms from character to character and finds her way back over the rainbow.
